Microneedling uses a sterile, single-use device with fine needles to create controlled micro-channels in the skin. It triggers the skin’s natural repair process — including new collagen — improving texture, fine lines, and scarring over time. Serums suited to your skin can be applied during treatment to take advantage of the open channels.
Benefits
- Improves skin texture and smoothness
- Softens fine lines and early wrinkles
- Helps reduce the appearance of acne scars and enlarged pores
- Evens out tone and boosts glow
- Minimal downtime compared with more aggressive resurfacing
Who it’s for
Adults with concerns about texture, fine lines, mild scarring, or dullness who want gradual, natural improvement. Not suitable over active acne, eczema, or infected skin; not during pregnancy; a history of keloid scarring or cold sores must be discussed at assessment.
What to expect
After assessment, consent, and photos, numbing cream is applied. Treatment takes about 30–45 minutes for the face. Skin is red afterwards (like a sunburn) and may feel warm and tight. Most people plan a series of 3 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart.
Recommended sessions
Most people plan a series of 3 sessions, spaced about 4 weeks apart. Maintenance sessions are commonly done a few times a year.
Before & after your visit
- Before: Pause retinoids for a few days before if advised, and arrive with clean, makeup-free skin.
- After: Follow the provided instructions on gentle cleansing and sun protection; avoid makeup for 24 hours, avoid irritating products (retinoids, acids, scrubs) for several days, and avoid heavy sweating and sun exposure while red.
- Downtime: Redness 1–3 days; light flaking can follow for a few days.
- Results: Early glow in 1–2 weeks; collagen improvement over 6–12 weeks per session.
- Duration: Cumulative with a series; maintenance sessions are commonly done a few times a year.
- Risks: Redness, dryness, bruising; rarely infection, cold-sore flare, or temporary pigmentation changes — seek care for increasing pain, spreading redness, fever, or drainage.
Frequently asked questions
Does microneedling hurt?
With numbing cream, most people feel mild scratching or pressure rather than pain.
How many sessions do I need?
Three is a typical starting series; scars may need more.
Can I do it before an event?
Give yourself at least a week so redness and flaking have fully settled.
Is at-home dermarolling the same?
No — clinic devices, depth control, sterile single-use needles, and medical-grade products make it a different treatment.
What can be applied during treatment?
Options include hydrating serums and boosters such as Res Novae Crystal — Jennifer will recommend what suits your skin.
Microneedling infusion options
NCTF® 135 HA (Fillmed) — a poly-revitalizing solution used with microneedling: non-crosslinked hyaluronic acid (5 mg/mL) plus about 59 active ingredients — 12 vitamins, 24 amino acids, 6 coenzymes, 6 minerals, 5 nucleic acids, and antioxidants including glutathione. Delivered into the skin through microneedling micro-channels, it feeds fibroblasts the building blocks for collagen and elastin — deep hydration, radiance, firmness, and smoother fine lines. It is one of the microneedling infusion options (with VAMP and hyaluronic acid) included in the $249 microneedling service.
VAMP™ (Prollenium) — a sterile, topical bio-revitalizing serum applied during microneedling. Its signature ingredient is PDRN — purified DNA fragments derived from salmon, highly biocompatible — combined with hyaluronic acid, 11 vitamins, 23 amino acids, and 6 minerals (VAMP = Vitamins, Amino acids, Minerals, PDRN). It supports skin repair, collagen production, hydration, and post-treatment recovery — with no blood draw, unlike PRP. A series of 3–4 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart is typical.
Res Novae Crystal (MediFab) — a chitosan skin booster also available as a microneedling infusion; see Microneedling with Res Novae Crystal.
