PRP (platelet-rich plasma) hair restoration uses your own blood to support hair growth. A small blood sample is processed in a centrifuge to concentrate platelets and growth factors, then injected into the scalp in areas of thinning. Because it uses your own cells, the risk of allergic reaction is minimal.

Benefits

  • Uses your own plasma — no foreign product
  • Can improve hair density and thickness in thinning areas
  • May reduce shedding over a course of treatment
  • No surgery and minimal downtime
  • Suitable for both men and women with early-to-moderate thinning

Who it’s for

Adults with thinning hair or early hair loss who still have living follicles in the area. PRP cannot regrow hair where follicles are completely gone (for example, a fully bald, shiny scalp). Certain blood conditions, scalp infections, recent corticosteroid use, and some medications affect candidacy and are reviewed at assessment.

What to expect

Your appointment takes about 45–60 minutes: blood draw, preparation of the PRP, numbing of the scalp, then a series of small injections across the thinning area. Most people return to normal activities the same day. A series of sessions spaced about a month apart is typically recommended, with maintenance after.

A series of 3–4 sessions, spaced about a month apart, is typically recommended to start, then maintenance a few times a year. Visible change usually takes 3–6 months.

Before & after your visit

  • Before: Wash your hair the morning of treatment; mention any blood disorders, scalp conditions, or recent steroid use.
  • After: Avoid washing your hair for about 24 hours if advised, avoid harsh scalp products and vigorous exercise for a day, and don’t scratch the injection points.
  • Downtime: Mild scalp tenderness or redness for a day or two.
  • Results: Improvement typically begins around 4 weeks, continues over 3–6 months, and may last 12–24 months with maintenance, per individual response.
  • Risks: Temporary pain, redness, swelling, or bruising at injection sites; rarely, infection. Results are not guaranteed and depend on the cause of your hair loss.

Frequently asked questions

Does it hurt?
Your scalp is numbed first; most people describe pressure and brief stings.

How many sessions will I need?
Usually a series of 3–4 to start, then maintenance a few times a year — confirmed at your assessment.

When will I see new growth?
Patience is key: visible change usually takes 3–6 months of treatment.

Can I combine PRP with other hair treatments?
Often yes — discuss anything you’re using (including medications) so the plan fits together safely.

Why might PRP not work for me?
If follicles are no longer active, PRP can’t revive them — Jennifer will tell you honestly if another route makes more sense.
