For chronic migraine, botulinum toxin is an established preventive treatment: injections are placed at set points across the head, neck, and shoulders to reduce the frequency and severity of migraine days. It is a medical treatment, provided at Diamond by Jennifer, Nurse Practitioner, following a proper migraine assessment.

Benefits

  • Can reduce the number of migraine days per month
  • Preventive — it works to stop migraines before they start
  • One treatment session covers a full cycle of prevention
  • Non-daily-medication option for chronic migraine
  • Flat pricing that includes the medication — no per-unit surprises

Who it’s for

Adults with chronic migraine (typically 15 or more headache days per month) who have not done well on, or cannot take, standard preventive medications. A confirmed diagnosis and headache history are essential — candidacy is determined at assessment, and this service is not for occasional headaches or undiagnosed head pain.

What to expect

Your first visit is a thorough assessment: migraine history, previous treatments, and screening to confirm the treatment is appropriate and safe. Treatment involves a series of small injections at standardized sites around the head, neck, and shoulders, taking about 20–30 minutes. Treatments are typically repeated about every 12 weeks, and benefit is judged over the first two cycles.

Before & after your visit

  • Before: Bring your migraine history (and a headache diary if you keep one) and a list of current medications and previous preventives tried.
  • After: Small bumps settle within an hour; stay upright for 4 hours, don’t rub the sites, and skip strenuous exercise for 24 hours.
  • Downtime: None for most people; mild neck soreness or a temporary headache can occur.
  • Results: Prevention builds over 2–3 weeks; the fairest judgement comes after two treatment cycles (~24 weeks).
  • Duration: About 12 weeks per treatment cycle.
  • Risks: Neck pain or stiffness, temporary eyelid droop, headache, bruising; rarely, difficulty swallowing or muscle weakness beyond the treatment area — any concerning symptoms should be reported promptly. Not suitable during pregnancy or with certain neuromuscular conditions.
