Botox is a purified botulinum toxin injected in very small amounts into specific facial muscles. It temporarily relaxes those muscles, softening the lines they create — most commonly forehead lines, frown lines between the brows, and crow’s feet. It is one of the most studied cosmetic treatments in the world.
Benefits
- Softens forehead, frown, and crow’s feet lines
- Helps prevent expression lines deepening over time
- Quick appointment with no real downtime
- Natural-looking when dosed conservatively — you still look like you
- Can be combined with other treatments in a long-term plan
Who it’s for
Adults bothered by dynamic lines who are in good general health. Botox is not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, have certain neuromuscular conditions, or have an active infection in the treatment area — all of this is screened at your assessment.
What to expect
Your first visit includes an assessment of your facial movement, a review of your health history and goals, consent, and photos. The injections take about 10–15 minutes, using a very fine needle — brief pinches. You can return to your normal activities right away. Effects begin in 3–5 days, with full effect at about 2 weeks, when a follow-up check is offered.
Recommended sessions
Results begin in 3–5 days, reach full effect at about 2 weeks, and typically last 3–4 months. Repeat treatments are booked as needed to maintain the effect.
Before & after your visit
- Before: Arrive with clean skin; tell Jennifer about all medications, supplements, and previous toxin treatments.
- After: Stay upright for 4 hours, don’t rub or massage the treated area, and skip strenuous exercise, saunas, and alcohol for 24 hours. Makeup can usually be applied gently after a few hours.
- Downtime: None for most people; small bumps settle within an hour; occasional small bruises possible.
- Results: Begin in 3–5 days, full at about 2 weeks, typically last 3–4 months.
- Risks: Temporary bruising, headache, asymmetry; rarely, heaviness or drooping of an eyelid or brow, or double vision — temporary, but report it promptly.
Frequently asked questions
Will I look frozen?
Not with conservative dosing — softened lines with natural movement preserved.
Does it hurt?
Briefly — very fine needle, only a few small injections.
How many units will I need?
It depends on the area and muscle strength; Jennifer will confirm the amount and total cost before treating.
When should I start?
Whenever lines bother you — no single “right” age.
Can I get Botox before an event?
Book at least 2–3 weeks ahead so the full effect — and any touch-up — is settled.
Products we use
At Diamond Aesthetics we use Botox® (onabotulinumtoxinA) and Dysport® (abobotulinumtoxinA). Dysport is a Health Canada–approved neurotoxin by Galderma. Like Botox, it relaxes the muscles that cause expression lines — frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet — and it is also used for therapeutic indications assessed by Jennifer, NP. It works the same way as other neuromodulators; onset is often a little quicker (2–3 days), and results typically last 3–4 months. Dysport and Botox units are NOT interchangeable — Jennifer doses each product individually.
